Literature Text

"I, the perfectionist,
do hereby declare,
to make every work prefect;
this I solemnly swear.
To write better than I can,
and then search for the flaws
that make my work less than perfect,
that break a perfectionist's laws.
And until every work is prefect,
none of them will be seen
by friends, family members,
or anybody other than me."

Thus is the oath of a perfectionist,
and a foolish oath indeed,
because we aren't always prefect,
and others we can't always please.
Everything has its flaws,
one way or another,
and until we see that,
we might as well not bother
writing, or drawing, or
creating what we make best,
because everything is a failure
in the eyes of a perfectionist.
Try saying this oath instead,
the one for a person who admits,
that they are only human,
and cannot be prefect:

"I, the mortal man,
do hereby admit,
that I'm only human,
and quite less than perfect.
Perfection can't be obtained
in this short life,
and if I try to obtain it,
my life will be a bitter strife.
So instead I will become,
the best I can be,
this is what I, the mortal man,
do solemnly decree."
I've been mulling over some stuff, with the new year coming and all, and I realized I can be a bit of a perfectionist at times. Sometimes it's a good thing, like when I realize something I wrote can be A LOT better, but sometimes it keeps me from showing something to people for a long time, until my twin sis persuades me to do so :D
So I wrote this poem, as kind of a tribute to my- and many other's- perfectionist sides. I hope you like it.
(BTW, the official title is "The Perfectionist’s Oath", but DA wouldn't let me put the apostrophe in)
